Heritage Weekend Open Day - Boorloo Kwedjang Bardip Yanginy

The recently refurbished His Majesty’s Theatre will be holding behind the scenes tours and activities where visitors can explore staging technology used to make magic happen. With so many events on offer on Family Friday there is something for everyone to take delight from.

A beautiful Edwardian building, His Majesty’s Theatre was built in 1904 during the prosperity of the gold rush. A refurbishment project completed in 2020 has ensured the theatre’s status as one of Western Australia’s great public buildings is protected. Immerse yourself in the splendour of His Majesty’s Theatre during the open day events.

Family Friday Activities and Entertainment

Come down and experience live music, roving performers, costume boxes, colouring activities and other surprises! Meet some of the colourful past residents of His Majesty's Theatre and hear their stories, including a ballerina, opera singer, roller skating waitress and even a ghost! Have some theatrical face painting fun as the creative makeup students of North Metropolitan TAFE show off the techniques and special effects that help bring create the magic of theatre!

Behind The Scenes Tour

(max 15 persons)
Visit the auditorium, stage, and backstage spaces of His Majesty’s Theatre and view memorabilia from the Museum of Performing Arts collection.
The tour commences in the ground floor foyer.
Time: Friday | 10:30am, 11:30am and 12:30pm
Ages: 8+
Duration: 30 minutes
Access: Suitable for able walkers (staircases need to be navigated)
Cost: Free
Booking: Registration sheet available on the day – first in best dressed

Accessible Behind The Scenes Tour

(max 10 persons)
Visit the auditorium, stage, and backstage spaces of His Majesty’s Theatre and memorabilia from the Museum of Performing Arts collection.
The tour commences in the ground floor foyer. Lifts will be used to reach the different areas.

Grand Historical Tour

(max 25 persons)
Ivan King OAM, His Majesty’s Theatre’s Theatre Historian, takes you on a gossipy and anecdotal wander through 10 decades of colourful show-business history. The tour commences in the
ground-floor foyer.
Time: Friday | 2pm
Ages: 15+
Duration: 2 hours
Access: Suitable for able walkers (staircases need to be navigated)
Cost: $25 (booking fees may apply)

Cyc ‘n’ Sound Tour

(max 10 persons)
Go backstage, visit the orchestra pit and explore the staging technology used to make magic happen on stage. You’ll also get some hands-on time with lighting and sound equipment and the chance to shine in the spotlight centre stage!

Ages: 8+
