Every Mother's Son is Guilty: Policing the Kimberley Frontier of Western Australia 1882-1905

22 January 2019 Perth Cultural Centre

In Every Mother’s Son is Guilty author and Battye Historian Chris Owen provides a compelling account of policing in the Kimberley district from 1882, when the police were established, until 1905 when Dr. Walter Roth’s controversial Royal Commission into the treatment of Aboriginal people was released.

Roth termed the conditions as a ‘brutal and outrageous condition of affairs’. In this presentation, you will discover how Chris Owen researched and developed this work through rigorous investigation into the State Library’s Battye Collection and State Records archives.
