Akane Ezawa was born in Tokyo, Japan were she started playing the saxophone in her junior high school’s brass band. By the time she was 17 she was strongly influenced by the Big Band sounds of The Glenn Miller Orchestra.

Ms. Ezawa majored in jazz performance at the Showa University of Music, where she graduated with honors. She was a part of the first WAYJO / Showa University Cultural exchange in 2014.

Ms. Ezawa is an in demand saxophonist who has performed with Masahiro Sayama, Yuichiro Aratake, Tetsuya Tatsumi and Yosuke Tamura, while still leader her own quartet and quintet ensembles. She will co-lead a quintet with Perth trumpeter Ricki Malet performing original material and songs from the great Hard Bop era.
